I'm proud to share the positive findings from Estyn's recent inspection of Carla House School.
The inspection report highlights how Carla House School has developed into a "welcoming community where pupils feel safe and valued." This is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the school's leadership team, teaching staff, and the wider support network within our organisation.
We were delighted to receive congratulations from Sam Rowlands MP, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, who said:
"It's excellent to hear that schools in Wrexham, such as yours, are receiving such high commendations. I believe the work you're doing to facilitate the provision of an education that directly aligns with the future aspirations and interests of each pupil is fantastic, and I think a similar system would work well for pupils in other schools. Good leadership is always important when it comes to pupils receiving the education they need, and undoubtedly this report highlights the superb manner in which you're leading Carla House School, particularly through the clear values you set out for the school."
A key strength noted by inspectors is the school's focus on supporting pupils' transitions, both when they first arrive and as they prepare to move on to the next stage of their education or training. By working closely with each young person to develop an individualised timetable and curriculum, the team ensures that learning is tailored to their unique interests and aspirations. This personalised approach has had a hugely positive impact, with inspectors reporting "significant progress for nearly all pupils" in terms of their attendance and engagement.
The report also praises the school's careers education program, which helps pupils identify their next steps and make successful transitions to further education, apprenticeships, or employment. Opportunities like work experience placements and industry-recognised qualifications are empowering these young people, raising their ambitions and equipping them with the skills and confidence they need to forge their own paths.
Underpinning all of this is a strong focus on pupil wellbeing, with staff demonstrating a "secure understanding of pupils' emotional and social needs." The school's pastoral support, therapeutic interventions, and opportunities for enrichment activities are having a transformative effect, helping pupils regulate their emotions, build healthy relationships, and develop a sense of belonging.
I would like to congratulate the team at Carla House School on this hugely positive inspection outcome and thank them for their tireless efforts in supporting our pupils.
